Vampiress Review: "Vinopiri: Krvni davek" (Winepires: Blood Tool)

The Gist:  When her girlfriend goes missing and members of her family are found dead a woman goes on to investigate whats going on just to find out her town has been overtaken by a vampire who is controlling everyone with wine diluted with her blood.

Female Vampire Factor:  The main antagonist of the film is the vampiress Ana (Rebeka Kopcic)

She really doesn't have that much to do with most of the movie until the reveal that she's been spreading her vampire blood around and controlling the wine makers of the town.  Other than that her on screen time is basically flirting with a guy named Kristjan and using him as her own personal sex toy and blood bag.

She is the only female vampire in the film that shows fangs.  The other two assumed vampires in the film include a female wine maker named Nastja (Natasa Baveb)

and finally the movies main protagonist Eva (Tea Melin) who seems to foil our vampire villainous by dating her for a few years before poisoning her and killing her.  It's hinted that she has been turned by Ana when Ana offers to bring an Italian guy to feed on during this scene.

Final Opinion: The film is pretty decent until that stinker of a rushed ending. It's not that the concept of Eva swerving Ana is a bad one but how it's executed was just terrible.  You get a pretty well done would be finale of Eva infiltrating a ceremony where the vampires were going to sacrifice her girlfriend  and Ana sending her minions after her with Eva taking them all out but then all of a sudden Ana asks for a truce and you get the above scene of the two on vacation.  If the film was going to end that way then honestly the Krisjan character shouldn't have been in it (whose relationship with Ana takes up a good portion of the film) and the movie should have had the Eva/Ana relationship play out on screen where Eva embraces her vampirism while continuing to plan her revenge on Ana for killing her family and friends.  I give it a Vampire Beauty Rating of 2 out of 5.  It's a good film overall otherwise but the ending definitely takes you out of it.

Vampiress Review: "The House Next Door: Meet the Blacks 2"

The Gist: Now back in their home town of Atlanta, Carl Black has to deal with his new neighbor who is a vampire that has eyes for his wife Lorena.

Female Vampire Factor:  The vampire next door "Dr. Mamuwalde" (Kat Williams) is a pimp who lives with two vampire hoes who are pretty much half naked the entire film and the only ones who do any actual biting on screen.

Even with this being the case Dr. Mamuwalde spends the film lusting after the wife of Carl Black, Lorena (Zulay Heneo).

By the films end he does capture and turn her (which is not done on camera). When Carl goes to the Dr.'s house to rescue her she already has fangs and tells him she had dreams of biting him leading to a scene where he just makes references to her, comparing her to celebrities with bad teeth.

For the remainder of the film until the Dr. is destroyed she basically is walking around fangs out and in lingerie.

Final Opinion: I don't think anyone ever asked for an urban parody of the original Fright Night.  Especially now with the film being nearly 30 years old but we have one and it does a pretty good job.  The humor in the film is very politically incorrect and as shown women in the film are just T&A so this movie would have done well in the 90's when that sort of thing was in style.  I give it a Vampire Beauty rating of 4 out of 5.  The only thing that keeps it from a five was the lack of Lorena doing anything vampiric.  One scene of her having to fight blood lust like Amy in Fright Night and this film would have been perfect.

Vampiress Review: "Pray for Daylight"

The Gist: A vampire hunter who went away to Europe comes back to her home town to find out that a new vampire mistress has taken over the town and isn't happy to have her back.

Female Vampire Factor: The main villain of the film is the vampire Lucretia

She has taken control of all the vampires of the town and keeps a damphyre named Syeria that she has hypnotized to serve her as a bodyguard.

There's also a vampiress that shows up in flashbacks named Natalia.

The rest of the vampires are just background characters in the films ending fight scene.

This is also the only point where Lucretia shows her fangs which happens after she is shot.

Final Opinion:  With a title like "Pray for Daylight" you would think (or hope) for a survival horror film.  What you get instead is a low quality Buffy the Vampire Slayer style drama with pretty much no actual vampirism in the vampire film.  The bulk of the film is slow paced fight scenes, flashbacks in black and white and annoying transitions that have gun shot sound effects.  I give it a Vampire Beauty Rating of 1 out of 5.  This film comes across more as an attempt to start a franchise with the Cassie Banning vampire hunter character than anything else.  From what I understand the film makers were self taught and this was a bit of an experimental project for them so by that standpoint it's much better than your average film experiments. The two shorts that proceed this film are much better from a vampirism perspective.

Vampiress Review: "Chinese Speaking Vampires"

The Gist: An actor who has to learn mandarin for a role in a movie ends up taking a night class which is a cover for a Chinese vampire who is turning his students to create an un-dead army.

Female Vampire Factor: There are two main female characters in the film and both are eventually turned very early in the film.  The first student to be turned in the entire film is Reika (June Lee)

She initially struggles with learning the language and the vampire teacher Master Ya asks her to stay after class.  He then explains to her that he has a way to teach her Manderin instantly before biting her.

After being turned Reika seeks out her best friend Susie (Daniela Brown).

When she finds her she coerces her back into the school building before cornering her to bite and turn her.

Suzie is the woman who the main protagonist in the film Tony is obsessed with trying to date.  Once she's turned she uses the opportunity to appear in his bedroom knowing he won't resist inviting her in.

Obviously due to his obsession with her she has no problem being able to bite him and turn him.

By mid movie the master has a classroom full of vampires

Final Opinion: This film is very corny but is actually pretty entertaining. The overall story is a good vampire vs evil vampire one where the main characters after being turned seem to be the only ones with free will enough to not go with the masters plan to take over Los Angeles and end up fighting against him.  Occasionally they fall back under his control but the paired up couples attraction to each other magically frees them from his control in those situations.  I give it a Vampire Beauty Rating of 4 out of 5.  After the initial turnings it becomes a full on martial arts film so the vampirism becomes secondary but it's still a functional film none the less.
